Delving into Green Man memories

Delving into Green Man memories

November 24, 2008

Time has stood still at an old Loughborough pub where the call "drink up, please" was last heard more than 15 years ago.

Most ex-customers think that the Green Man in Swan Street ceased to exist after it closed down in March, 1993. For the entrance to the basement premises disappeared when lifts were installed to the car park at Carillon Court shopping centre.

But the basement is still there, although it is sealed off from the world. The bar and seating remain in position and there are attractive murals on the walls.

The old pub can only be reached via a manhole cover. Annual inspections are carried out to ensure that the premises are still sound.

Going down into the old watering hole must be like steppng back in time.
