Outside the boarding house

Outside the boarding house

Many holidays were spent at Skegness in my childhood. This picture from the past was taken outside Gardenia boarding house where we stayed on several occasions. I am the young chap on the right, and standing next to me is the landlady, Mrs Beardsley, whose speciality was treacle pudding with lots of custard. Most of the other people in the pic are boarders, although standing behind me is Mrs Beardsley's brother, Ernie, who was a barman at the Goscote Hotel at Birstall. Presumably he was taking a break. I believe Ernie was badly wounded as a soldier in World War Two.
